Happy children in Thailand
"HAPPY CHILDREN: HEATHY MIND AND BODY”

108 students of the 1st to 6th grace of the Thung Sala, Elementary School are the recipients of this beautiful project that seeks to improve their diets to achieve an adequate physical and social development. (Ratchabury THAILAND-)

We wish to share how we are doing to all those who have contributed their part to this project.

The project began in June 2011 with the evaluation of existing menu (lunch) for kids. A better menu was prepared by the school principal, teachers, the Carmelite Missionaries, and the head of the kitchen. Currently they have prepared different dishes for the 20 school days, to be repeated for each month.

On July 12, 2011, the children had medical evaluation of their health. There were 16 children who needed supplemental nutrition.

The Principal and teachers have expressed their gratitude and appreciation because they really believe that the project can improve the health of the children and eventually help them study better.

We will visit the families of the children who are in most need of nutrition.
A seminar-workshop for children on personal hygiene is carried out, and another on how to prepare more nutritious food for their children is given to the teachers and parents.
Volunteer doctors will visit the children on different occasions to make the evaluation.

Thanks to everyone who generously offered a hand to the needy!

“VIRGEN DEL CARMEN” CHILDREN’S CENTRE
COCHABAMBA – BOLIVIA

We are on a Feast!

I wrote this article exactly on the Feast of Cochabamba; it is a day of giving thanks to God for her beauty, for being the heart of Bolivia, for being gazed upon, protected and received by the image of the Lord of Concordia; and as mother, the Virgin of Urkupiña, who is so loved and celebrated by many. It is a poor but festive town. Everything is a cause for celebration.

Cochabamba has its charm, a variety of very dry hills with no vegetation, almost all inhabited, where life goes on emerging. In one of them, in “Cerro Buena Vista, “ the “Virgen del Carmen” Children’s Centre is located; it is a simple and clean infrastructure protected by blue bars, with a playground and a small garden that gives a special color and a welcoming atmosphere.

We, Carmelite Missionaries, have been here in this beautiful mission of receiving the children (from 1 and ½ to 6 years old) of this area for 10 years. We offer them our affection, security and protection they need. Many of them are very poor, not living with their parents but with their grandmothers, a family member or neighbour. They are children of immigrants from different parts of Bolivia and now many of them have gone to other countries in search of better living, without realizing the great loss and suffering caused to their children. Our community, which was formerly interprovincial juniorate, enriched this daycare with the values and creativity of the young. Now we are only three full time sisters, giving to these children what we are and have with much joy, convinced that this mission the Lord has placed in our hands is the most beautiful mission – being with the least and the poor of all.

From Unguía - Colombia

“Sowing Hope”

Thanks Foscarmis – this is the word that comes out from the hearts of children, parents and sisters - for allowing us to dream about the possibility of improving our quality of life.

As the name says, “Sowing Hope,” we have started our project with great hope; we have already built chicken sheds and garden beds. There is much excitement among the children, parents and sisters in receiving this support from FOSCARMIS.

The children take charge of getting the manure and sawdust for the garden beds and sheds. They go out with their sacks enthusiastically, accompanied by Sister Ninfa, searching for good fertilizer and soil for sowing, and they also obtain sawdust from the woodwork of the town. They seem like ants coming and going, laughing and jumping, bringing the necessary elements for the cultivation.

But it was not all joy and celebration; we had the first great suffering at the barn, because just three days after the chickens arrived, there had been a flood in the village and of course as always, we have had the worst part. We had to move the chickens to the second floor of the house, which was, the only dry place left, and placed them in the library because we had no other choice; there we lived with them for two days. After this, we initiated appropriate corrective measures so this will not happen again.

We have begun the project for only a short time but we are daily in expectation, pending at every moment how the chickens are, if they are not sad, if they are healthy. May the seeds we sow be bursting, that they may grow well… At any rate, we never stop seeking for ways and means to make everything work, and we continue to do so to achieve the goals we have proposed to develop this project.

Once again, thanks to FOSCARMIS, the solidary commitment of the Congregation is bearing fruit!

Alternative progress and wellbeing

This is the name of the Project approved by Foscarmis for Vijagual.

Vijagual is a small town in Colombia, located on the banks of the Magdalena River. During the last two years, the harsh winter in our country was felt strongly, which has caused flooding, loss of homes, of crops, and whatever means of livelihood.

One way to help these families has been this project, to which we have put much effort and dedication. 15 women heads of households have joined together for the breeding and marketing of chickens. With the support of Foscarmis, each of them in their homes opened up a place for the chickens, feeding them and seeing them grow; and at each determined period, they are sold and through the proceeds of such sale, they buy new ones; a portion of the money is set aside to sustain the project, and the rest is given to each of the women to help support their families.

They are happy; they meet, study, and learn, forming themselves in topics of interest, reflecting and praying. It is an integral formation that is slowly bearing fruit.

Again, Thanks to Foscarmis!

The progress of children in Pushpanjali Hostel, Kiralaga (Orissa) – India

The first stage for the development of the children is the support needed, and this is answered through FOSCARMIS, helping in their proper nutrition, and favouring their integral growth.

FOSCARMIS extends its wings of generosity to respond to the needs of the children, a good nutrition for a better academic performance and better service. This has been vital to our children.

We have seen the progress of educating the children though various methods so as to develop their intellectual capacity. They look happier and healthier.

FOSCARMIS has touched the development of the mind, body and spirit of the children in Pushpanjali and has helped improve their creative thinking.

Thank you, thank you very much FOSCARMIS.
